Omake: An Omamori

Shiina was busy packing her weapons away as quickly as she could. She narrowed her eyes as she looked down at the cold temple floor. Thinking about her latest mission, the young girl closed her eyes and sighed.
Shiina, she could hear her mother's voice as clear as ever. I need you to kill this man. The picture couldn't have been more unclear, but Shiina was trained to know who a person was just by a slight outline. She knew who she was looking for, and he was a dangerous man. Not only was he skilled in karate, kung fu and a number of other martial arts, he also had dozens of guards guarding his palace. No doubt about it, this was the man who led her country. Sighing as she tightened her hachimaki, she stood up and came face to face with her father."W-what do you want?" Shiina had also been traine to be wary around everyone, even her parents.

Tsutoko, who was the kinder one out of her two parents, looked down at his daughter. "Here," he said gruffly, opening up her clenched palm and placing an object in it. "Kasumi didn't want me to give this to you, but I insisted that I should...." With those words, the man turned and left.

Side Story: Shiina's Underwear

Shiina Natsumoto was all alone in the wilderness. A lone wolf howled and she padded faster, pulling her kimono tightly around her, shivering in the bone chilling night air. As the young seer crept closer to the gate, the clouds parted to reveal the sparkling silver moon. When lead inside by a cloaked figure, the girl straightened up and looked around at the tall castle of the magic school that towered in front of her. No doubt about it, this was Lyreade.

Shiina Natsumoto was no longer alone. At least not that much. She had a school, classmates, but no true friends. Considering her cool nature, it was no surprise to her that she was sorted into the Dracoslyther house, where the dark wizards and witches sprung from. But she was lonely. No longer could she see the smiling face of her brother, Taki, nor the one of her sister. Well, even if she had stayed it wouldn't have mattered. Her sister was dead. But she did still miss Taki very dearly. Walking through the corridor, she found herself alone, no longer with any family to be with her.

In the Great Hall, things were no different. Shiina sat by herself at the Dracoslyther table, slowly eating, then disappearing away, either to the library or the common room. One day was different. Professor Knapp, the headmistress, stood at the front of the school, looking at all of the students. 'Students of Lyreade,' the professor slowly said. 'Someone found this in the corridor yesterday. Is it anyone's?' Shiina's head snapped up. Professor Knapp was holding a pair of  white underwear, with a cute shojou anime character stitched on the back. Her face turned red and she lunged forward. 'THAT'S MINE!!!!'

Shiina's Past Part 3

Shiina stepped out into the forest. It was a dark night, and no stars were in the velvet sky. She looked up and sighed. I have no where to go, she thought to herself. If I run, for sure Taki and Natsushi will be killed. And it will be useless to run away with them. I'll have to stay here for the rest of my life....A breeze blew at her long, blue hair, pulling at its strands. Shiina turned around as she heard footsteps approaching. "It's time," a slightly high voice said. Kasumi Natsumoto stepped out of the shadows. "It's time to kill you sister."

Shiina's eyes widened as the woman approached her, but the young girl was speechless. The silver-haired woman stepped forwards and slapped her daughter across the cheek, glaring at her intensely. "Go," she ordered. "Go."

The ten-year old girl stepped into the room, empty except for the sleeping form of Natsushi Natsumoto. She narrowed her eyes and she slowly and silently stepped forwards, gripping the hilt of her katana tightly, so tightly that it bled. Red dripped onto the floor and stained the light brown tatami. Soon, the girl found herself at her sister's bedside, looking down at the sleeping child, her hand shaking uncontrollably. She raised her hands to deliver the killing blow, but without warning, the child opened her eyes. Dark blue orbs stared into the red of her sisters. "O-oneechan?" a wispy voice said, wracking the older girl with sadness. "W-what are you doing?"

Closing her eyes tightly, Shiina plunged her hands downwards into the body of the younger girl. A bloodcurdling scream pierced the night as a life was brutally taken. When it was over, the blue haired girl stood up and looked down at the now dead body of her sister. I killed my sister, she thought. I killed my sister. I- Shiina couldn't take it anymore. She turned out of the room and fled, not caring if her parents were standing guard outside the house and hurling weapon after weapon at her, not caring if she was leaving her brother alone to cope with her parents. On that night, Shiina Natsumoto became outlawed from her family, erased away from the family tree.

But also on that night, Shiina Natsumoto found a letter.

An invitation to Lyreade.

Shiina's Past Part 2

The sky was the color of royal blue velvet. A single star shined in the dark haze of midnight. A man stepped out of the shadows, facing the girl who had her hand pinned to the tree with a throwing needle.
“I asked you something,” he said calmly. “So you need to answer me.”
Shiina was silent, but wincing at the needle that pierced through the center of her hand. Her father stepped forward, and clenched his hand around her throat tightly. “You must obey your parents, Shiina,” he said tauntingly. After about two minutes, he let go. The blue haired girl fell to the ground, coughing, her right hand still bound to the tree by the needle. She put her left hand up to her mouth. Red liquid seeped through her fingers and spattered onto the forest floor. The man’s blue eyes glared at his daughter, then disappeared into the dark along with the rest of him.

*Six years ago*

Snow fell around the small temple in the woods, heaping in blankets around it. Inside the temple was not much warmer, probably by just a few degrees. A young girl sat  opposite from her parents on the floor. Her mother, a young woman, with silver-streaked black hair was getting her other child to stop crying. Her father just sat there, blue eyes staring at nothing. The girl, dark blue hair cascading onto the floor, tried not to look at her kin, but could not resist. She looked up and…

Images flashed through the young girl’s mind. She saw deaths, the red of blood, and heard the striking of weapon against weapon over and over again. There was the acrid smell of blood everywhere, and screams pierced the visions of death and battles. The girl had an outline of black around her, and her eyes had turned from red to the darkest black, like blood drying around an untreated wound. When it was over, she kneeled over and coughed, her lifeblood pouring out of her mouth and onto the floor.

Her mother stood up and pierced her daughter’s arm with a small dagger. “Don’t get the floor dirty!” she said, voice full of disdain. “Controls your powers already! Weakling.” The mother spat on her daughter and turned into a different room, the young baby having calmed down. Her father also left, leaving the girl scrunched up, laying on the floor in agony. When her coughing stopped, she sat up and narrowed her eyes, ripping part of her kimono off and wrapping it around her arm. Each day of her life had been like that for several years.
